A Visit from the Governor

A Visit from the Governor

The Bakehouse had a special visit last week.

Governor Tony Evers stopped in to visit the Bakehouse and chat briefly about our story and the support we've received from the state.

The fact that Governor Evers chose the Bakehouse as one of his hand-picked places to stop during his visit to Green Bay, left us feeling... 🥰🥰🥰

Did you know...

  • Wisconsin has 406,766 small businesses, according to the most current federal data available.
  • As of 2019 data, Brown County has 6,615 employer establishments.

All that to say…

It's truly an honor that we were selected as one of the businesses Governor Evers chose to visit.

The visit was perfect.

We showed Governor Evers around the Bakehouse. He saw production in action, and we shared with him the challenges we have faced opening and operating the Bakehouse during the pandemic.

He was interested in understanding the support we received from the state and how those grants (including the Main Street Bounceback Grant and the DOR We're All In Small Business Grant) have helped us through this time.

Governor Evers impressed us with his genuinity. He was easy to talk to, listened intently, and replied with thoughtful questions and compliments.

At the end of our visit he said, "I am sure I will be back here again. Next time I will bring my wife."

We look forward to it, Mr. Evers!

You know what else is an enormous honor?

To be mentioned in Food & Wine Magazine as one of the best stops for bread in the state of Wisconsin!

Our mention is as follows...

"Madison may be the most food literate city in the state, at least from a modern perspective, but there's good bread all over these days—in Milwaukee, it's Stephen's Breads, where baker Stephen Blanchard is equally passionate about grain provenance, while up in Green Bay, it's the sourdough loaves from Voyageurs Bakehouse you're looking for."

We feel truly honored by this recognition, and grateful to YOU!

If it weren’t for your continued support, we simply wouldn’t be here. Because you were there at the beginning, and are still here following our journey, we get to continue living our dream of bringing people together around the table by the simple power of bread.

Thank you.
