Top 3 Breads of 2021

Top 3 Breads of 2021

The bread. It's the center to why we do what we do.

🤍 It gathers people around the table.

🤍 It brings nourishment to the body.

🤍 It brings pleasure to the mind.

What are your favorite loaves? Well, according to 2021 Bakehouse statistics, our Voyageurs community voted that the top 3 loaves are...

  1. Country Loaf
  2. Seeded Country
  3. The Italian

So, what makes these loaves so special and dearly loved by so many?

Let's start with the COUNTRY LOAF.

This was the first ever sourdough that we made at Voyageurs.

When people think of sourdough, they often think of a classic French pain de campagne, which translates to “bread of the countryside.”

A traditional country loaf is a blend of various grains grown in the local countryside, which holds true for the Voyageurs Country Loaf. Made with a blend of artisan bread flour and stone ground whole wheat, rye, and spelt flours from Meadowlark Organics in Ridgeway, WI, this loaf is best enjoyed during a peaceful moment with a large slab of butter.

It can actually be enjoyed in so many ways. This loaf is very flexible, meaning you can enjoy it with savory dishes like soups and stews, as well as with jam for breakfast.

Runner up is the
SEEDED COUNTRY.

This was the third bread we developed, and is a favorite by so many. There is a deep nutty flavor in this loaf that is described as "heavenly" by customer Kim:

"This is literally my favorite bread ever! I love to eat it slab-by-slab, just a kiss of butter, over the course of a weekend!"

With toasted sesame and sunflower seeds, along with soaked flax seeds that give the bread a soft texture, the Seeded Country makes the most outstanding sandwich. We use it for our Pastrami Reuben at the Bakehouse.

My personal favorite way to enjoy this loaf...
A nice thick slice, lightly toasted, with salted butter and a drizzle of honey for breakfast.

And 3rd on the list is THE ITALIAN.

This loaf was developed about 8 months into our bread making journey. It was created specifically for restaurants and as a sandwich loaf, and then released to our community.

It has quickly become a favorite due to its lighter and softer texture. The Italian loaf is made with stone-ground durum wheat and cooked polenta. The addition of olive oil makes the crumb extra tender.

This loaf makes a beautiful show-stopper grilled cheese sandwich, but its versatility makes it a great choice for any meal.
