Kardemummabullar, or classic Swedish cardamom buns, are traditionally enjoyed with a cup of coffee during afternoon fika. What is fika? Glad you asked! It's translated as a coffee break, but it's much more than that. It'a a chance to gather around the table, chat with friends, and enjoy something sweet. It's a daily ritual to pause, rest and enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
To embrace fika at the Bakehouse this season, we created our own version of this traditional Swedish pastry. Our sourdough brioche dough is combined with a cardamom sugar filling and then braided & knotted before being left to proof. Soft, plush, and smelling of cardamom out of the oven, these knots are finished with an orange almond glaze.
We hope you'll join us as we fika this holiday season and invite friends to share a cup of coffee and these traditional Swedish knots!
